Shishapangma (14th Highest in the World)
Climbing Period: September and October
Altitude: 26,289ft / 8013m
Routes: "North-West Face and North Ridge" (Normal Route).
Meagan will arrive at the Base Camp at 5000m (16,405ft) to
make ready her final preparations and conduct acclimatization
walks. Yaks will transport expedition gear from Base Camp
at 5000m (16,405ft) to ABC at 5400m (17,717ft). Three
further camps will be placed enroute:
Camp 1 - 6730m (22,081ft) - The climb to Camp 1 begins
with an easy angled snow slope, up to 35 degrees, with
one steep section. Generally, fixed ropes will
not be required in climbing from ABC to Camp I, however,
in steep places or crevassed sections, fixed lines will be placed.
Camp 2 - 7045m (23,114ft) - After 6-7 hours of
climbing, Meagan will reach Camp 2 through crossing
many snowy slopes and using fixed ropes in crevassed
areas. It is a gradual climb, requiring approximately
100m of steep climbing from Camp 1 to Camp 2.
Camp 3 - 7400m (24,279ft) - After 5-6 hours of climbing,
Meagan will reach Camp 3 via a steep ascent (350m) leading
to very gentle ground below the northwest ridge. From
Camp 3, it takes 9-12 hours to reach on the summit at 8013m (26,289ft).
