Broad Peak

Broad Peak (12th Highest in the World)
Climbing Period: June to August

Altitude:  26,400ft / 8047m

Route: "West Ridge Route (Normal Route)".

From Base Camp, at 5000m (16,405ft), Meagan will climb a glacier to a bergschrund. She will ascend a wall of mixed terrain, to 6200m (20,342ft), where Camp 1 will be situated. Above Camp 1, the terrain becomes steeper and rockier. Meagan will climb over a number of rocky features. The terrain flattens out again, where Meagan will establish Camp 2 at 6800m (22,310ft). Above Camp 2, Meagan heads up the west rib, firstly over mixed terrain, and then through a couloir that opens up onto a broad snowfield. After the snowfield, the ground steepens again, and after a short, very steep passage comes the route to the ridge. Meagan will follow the ridge until the beginning of the summit snowfield. There, Meagan will build Camp 3, at a height of 7300m (23,951ft). On summit day, via the 30 degree, steep snowfield climb, over crevasses and along seracs, Meagan will travel through the last 50m on a 50 degree steep flank to the col. From the col, the summit slope steepens. The first 100m are steep, and then the ground levels off. The way to the top becomes tricky, as she must travel through a number of rocky features, but beyond lays the summit, at 8047m (26,402ft). She descends the same way she went up.
